Yes I Can.

I never really bought into the whole Obama craze. Granted, I voted for the man, but at the same time, I felt as if it were a lose/lose situation. We have an inexperienced nominee and then we have an old prick who doesn’t know what the hell he’s going to do in this mess of a situation. So, instead of going with the old prick, I figured I’d vote for the guy who has everything to lose. When a man is pressured like that, wants it as bad as Obama does, he will not fail. At least not miserably, and with that said, I’d rather give him a chance then McCain.

And then there was the art. Beautiful pieces of work for Obama. First it was his website. Damn it’s gorgeous. Then it was all these Obama posters (haha, I had to) which are simply stunning. It made me appreciate him because he appreciated art. And artists appreciated him. So I guess I jumped on the band wagon some how, some way. Fast forward to Januarary and he’s now the President-elect, and I figured, why not give it a shot a designing an Obama poster myself? Oh yea, and did I mention he’s an avid poker player who knows many of the top professionals? And that he wants to help legalize online poker? He’s got my vote just for that. Hah.

Now granted, one of my weakest strengths (haha, oxymoron) is straight up graphic design. Yep. I said it. I am a graphic artist, and yet, that is my weakest skill. It has been a slow week thus far for me at work, and so I took the time to work on some of my weaknesses. Primarily Typography. Man am I bad at typography.

Anyways, the following is still a work in progress. I think I still have a lot more to go, including paragraph which will quote Obama in the bottom right corner. I want to add in a lot more detail to the background and the light streaks and go nutso with everything else. So while I have my layout, I think I am only about 35% done. The typography will be my biggest challenge because I suck at it. I never went to art school, so I never learned it.

So if you have any input, feel free to say it because it’s not too late for me to incorporate it. And without further adeiu, I present to you – My Obama Poster Wannabe.

So, as you can see, I’ve got a lot of work to do. I can’t wait to finish it (hopefully I will). My portfolio needs more pieces like this and I really never realized how much I enjoy doing this sort of work. Any who, I’ll continue to update everyone with additional screen shots of my progress, including shots where I experimented with certain stuff that didn’t end up making the cut.
